Change the background of a photo
Free tool · No sign-up · Your image is never uploaded
Changing a background is two steps: separate the subject
from the background it already has and put another one behind.
The first — the cutout — is handled by AI; the second is picking a color or
an image. This tool does both, free, and your photo never leaves the browser.

Two ways to change the background
- To a solid color: the safest, most direct option. White for products and documents, or any color. Hard to get wrong.
- To another image: place the subject over a landscape, a texture, or your brand's backdrop, with adjustable opacity so it doesn't compete.
Step by step
- Open the photo in the editor.
- Use the AI Cutout to separate the subject and refine the edges with the brushes.
- In Export, choose Color or Image mode.
- If it's an image, tune the opacity and frame with the scale control.
- Export as PNG/WebP or JPG.
Make the change look natural
- Consistent light: pick a background lit from the same side as the subject.
- Clean edge: over a detailed photo, any leftover of the old background shows — check the outline zoomed in.
- Opacity for the subject: lowering the background's opacity pushes it "back".
Frequently asked questions
Can I use another photo as the background, not just a color?
Yes. Image mode lets you upload a second photo behind the subject, with adjustable opacity.
How do I keep it from looking like a cut-and-paste?
Clean the edge zoomed in, match the light, and lower the background image's opacity a bit.
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. The original and the background are processed in your browser; neither is uploaded or stored.
